What do you want from Microsoft

The Scobleizer Weblog run by an MS employee who seems like a pretty decent guy has some responses to Dave Winer and asks the interesting question "... tell us what you'd like to see on the Windows platform... I'll make sure the right people see the best responses"

Interesting question eh?. Right now a lot of geeks aren't too Microsoft friendly and this guy is a big player (I think) on the Longhorn team, and we have a chance to respond. A few people have, but I'd encourage all y'all to throw a (politely and maturely phrased) response back to him.

According to Scoble, Longhorn does everything already and is perfect, so why does he need more input?

I posted away, but as engel mentions Scoble has had too much coolaid in the past two months.

Huh? I've never said that Longhorn is perfect.

Well, Mr. Scoble (if that is your real name), comments on your web site (which is one of those new fangled BLOGS), like

"The Inquirer: 'Is Microsoft's Longhorn a Bum Steer?' Heh. You'll just have to come to the PDC to hear the real Longhorn story and see for yourself!"

lead the average Joe user to basically tune you out because you are now simply an MS cheerleader (Which people like about as much as MS Bob).

What do people (and by people I assume you mean DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVERLOPERS) want from the Windows Platform? They want an end to the monopoly, they want an end to Tim Bray's "sharecropper dilemma," they want MS to be a good citizen, they want web standards, they want choice, and they want a good and diverse OS ecology. They want what is best for the industry and themselves, not what is best for MS.

So if you can convince SuperMechaDestructaBallmerGates to suddenly Do The Right Thing, then we can talk. Until then, it doesn't matter what cool features Longhorn has, it is just a cross between a strategy tax and a way to push everyone else off of the hill.
