RSS Specs and Incompatibilities

Mark has a good post on The myth of RSS compatibility. Does anyone really care that much about this stuff? Seriously, it's xml, most aggregatores can read most of the major versions and most of the blogging tools have at least three different feeds created automagically for you by default. Can't people just pick a format and call it a standard? I mean pick one format, not pick more than one and call it a standard [insert old joke about lots of standards here]. Oh yea, egos, I forgot. *sigh* Still an interesting read to see the history behind the insanity :)
