MS Antivirus Details Leak I seem to remember them saying at one point they'd never get into the AV market, and the AV companies shouldn't worry. Or maybe they should?

Mach Movie Trailer Looks Awsome Chris Blizzard pointed to a trailer on the Japanese Apple Trailers site called Mach. I think. Or something. It's a trailer for what appears to be an absolutely kick-ass martial arts movie, and looks a bit like Jackie Chan's movies, with some wild stunts.

Selling my Soul Well, as some of you may have noticed I've (re-)sold my soul and signed up with Google Adsense to bring in a little extra money to help pay for the site bandwidth. Of course, if you love me you are welcome to click on the 'Donate' link on the right :) However, I haven't been getting any lovin' that way, so I am seeing if the text banner ads are worth it.

The ads have been put (for now) on a few select pages that seem to have brought in through google for one reason or another (ie: the 'how to hack hotmail passwords' page (which isn't)) and the Iambe comments page. I may put them in the main site at some later time however. We'll see how it goes.

If you really hate them, you're welcome to donate and / or bitch and whine at me.

Note To Self: Synergy My buddy random($foo) points me to Synergy, nifty keyboard/mouse/screensaver software.
Redirecting the mouse and keyboard is as simple as moving the mouse off the edge of your screen. Synergy also merges the clipboards of all the systems into one, allowing cut-and-paste between systems. Furthermore, it synchronizes screen savers so they all start and stop together and, if screen locking is enabled, only one screen requires a password to unlock them all. Learn more about how it works.

The Gush NewsReader Am I the last one to hear about Gush? I thought I was pretty up on the blogging and RSS world but the mention this morning on Daily Dose Of Imagery was the first I'd ever heard of it. It's a newsreader written in flash, cross platform (os/x linux windows), has integrated instant messaging through Jabber (but not in an "in your face" way, more in a "IM should be everywhere so here it is" matter of fact way), special stuff for photoblogs, a damn sexy look.

Anyway, check it out.

Douglas Adams Interview from 1988

Nifty, check out this 90 minute Douglas Adams interview from 1988. He talks about HHTTG, Dirk Gently, and a host of other things. Via Alex and Boing Boing, which also points to a 90 min RealAudio of another talk he did.

One of these days I outta learn GTK+ programming and help these guys out fixing the stuff. Until then though, I am just bitching to the world :)

Microsoft only Half Patches (again) Shocking as it may seem, apparently the patch release by Microsoft a few days ago to patch a serious hold in Internet Explorer only addressed the immediate problem, and left users open to another closely related security hold. Full story here. Isn't this the same thing that happened with WinNuke back in the day?

Maybe this is the sort of thing that they need to NOT do to increase shareholder value.

Spamassassin Logo Contest In other spam-filtering related news, I got this note from Daniel Quinlan saying that spamassassin is having a logo contest.

The SpamAssassin project is holding a logo contest to replace our old venerable logo with a new one for our upcoming 3.0 release which has both major improvements and will be our first release as an official ASF top-level project. Fame and fortune await the winner. Well, okay, maybe not, but we'll give you credit and like you very much. See http://wiki.apache.org/spamassassin/LogoContest for more information and to make an entry.
This is also mentioned on taint.org.

Sounds like fun. Bring out The GIMP and get to it!

New BogoFilter Installed Just for everyone who has BogoFilter spam filtering set up on ufies.org, I've installed a new version, 0.92.1 on ufies. This has some clean up, and among other things removed the now obselete option '-f'. If you have this in your .procmailrc (if you followed the directions to install it at least) you won't be getting any mail because bogofilter will be failing with an error. You can go into your .procmailrc and simply remove the '-f' option from the command.

Course, from a quick look it looks like I'm the only one on the server who uses this spam filter, so no worries :) If you are interested though, check the documentation on the bogofilter homepage.

I was kinda wondering why I was getting no mail :)

Rolling Robot This article on New Scientist about a nifty new type or robot wheel which can roll around by itself. It uses heat to shrink and expand the spokes, thus changing the center of gravity and allowing it to roll up inclines of up to 20 degress and jump up to 8cm.

How long before these are sold on ThinkGeek?

Funny Letter to MS from Slashdot Reader Hidden in the /. story about the IE exploit being fixed is a gem of an open letter to Microsoft regarding their Security zones. A sample...
Code. Code belong on hard drive. Code tell a C.P.U. to do stuff. You get code, you save code, you tell box to run code! O.S. do what code say, so if you get owned, is your fault cuz you tell O.S. to run code! This just fine!
