Great article on why you should Build an Application (Even if it Already Exists) as a programmer, especially if you're trying to learn something. There's been many many times in my question to learn say, Ruby on Rails where I've thought of a good idea (to me anyway) only to find that it already exists in 18 different forms already, so I've dismissed it as silly to re-invent the wheel.
