The sound of the dialup

Ok, this is the most awesome thing I’ve seen in a while. The sound of the dialup, pictured shows in both audio and visual forms what’s going on when a dialup modem connects.

The full size image is pretty awesome, and really shows what’s going on. Huge kudos to Oona Räisänen for putting this together.

I spent 4 years doing tech support Back In The Day(tm) supporting a dial up modem pool at the local Real Estate Board, and more than one time I asked the end user to put the phone at the back of the computer so I could hear what the modem was doing. I can still tell if hardware error correction fails or not.
