Really, who cares about anything today other than the Star Wars: The Force Awakens Official Teaser
I randomly came across this IOS 7 Concept video from over a year ago. I’m sure when it came out (before iOS 7 was released) it was looked at as possible and probably a really cool idea and completely possible. However now iOS 7 (and iOS 8) are out, some of the ideas can be seen as simply ridiculous. Just as the iOS 9 concept that popped up today will look completely silly in a year or so.
Where Did the Wilhelm Scream Come From and Why Do So Many Filmmakers Use It? is the best article on the Wilhelm Scream I’ve read so far.
Now I know what I’m looking for, I can’t un-hear it.
Yup, it’s finally here, the first trailer for Jurassic World.
A natural progression, probably horribly predictable, and you can bet I’ll be there opening day!
Windows 10 Technical Preview First Impressions:
But now we come to Windows 10. Windows 10 is ditching the “One Interface to Rule them All” mentality, and moving to a more user friendly model of a single store across all platforms, and multiple interfaces to the same OS depending on the current usage model. We have not seen all of this in practice as of yet in the Technical Preview, but Microsoft has demonstrated their solution to this change in input mode with a feature they are calling Continuum.
Archie’s Press: Vancouver is a fantastic city map that explains Vancouver like I’ve never seen it before (and I’ve lived here all my life). On their products page there are most other major North American cities available.
The MusicBrainz Blog: Announcing the AcousticBrainz project:
The AcousticBrainz project aims to crowd source acoustic information for all of the music in the world and make it available to the public. The goal of AcousticBrainz is to provide music technology researchers and open source hackers with a massive database of information about music.
Hollywood Can’t Compete With This Supercut Of NASA Footage. I agree with the original poster, watch this on the biggest screen you can.
Panic blogged today on The Future of Unison (their Usenet client), and showed why they are classy and do what’s right.
The new version is:
So they update an app that’s basically at End Of Life, and instead of letting it wallow, broken on a new OS version, they make sure it’s up, running, useful, and then make it free so anyone who would like to use it, can, as they’re not selling it anymore. The only thing that they haven’t done is open source the code, which they address in the comments saying it’s not practical (probably shared libraries with other products or something like that), but if issues arrive in the future, they’ll consider it.
Classy.
Dropbox: We’re partnering with Microsoft
We know that much of the world relies on a combination of Dropbox and Microsoft Office to get work done. In fact, Dropbox is home to over 35 billion Office documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. That’s why we’re partnering with Microsoft to help you do more on your phones, tablets, and the web. Soon you’ll be able to access your Dropbox directly from Office apps, and edit Office files from the Dropbox app.
Very interesting. I suspect this won’t affect other platforms, but still, a bit worrying. I wonder how much money was offered (they famously rejected a bid by Steve Jobs at Apple a few years ago).
David Pogue reviews Android 5.0 Lollipop. Overall cool and different, but not without some issues.
On this Settings screen, for example, some lines of text are buttons (tappable). Some are just labels; nothing happens when you tap. One makes a pop-up menu appear. One opens another screen full of options. Can you tell by looking which is which?
The first Chappie Trailer has hit the web. From the directory of District 9 and with a similar tack.
I’m amazed at how good CGI is… I really didn’t not believe the main character for a second, and if you think about it, it’s all created inside a computer. Amazing tech.
A Men’s Business-Suit Onesie? I need one of these!
Maybe not for $300…. but still, looks classy and comfortable!
Honda has a great video (ad) on youtube. Pretty innovative use of the technology and really well done.
So good you have to watch it twice (no really, you’ll see what I mean).
A nice behind the scenes look at the editing and filming side of it.
Via Staticred comes My cousin Oskaar and some of the best commentary on Daylight Saving Time that I’ve seen so far.
Note: naughty language.
