The city of Gyeongju in South-eastern Korea, is the ancient capital of the Silla Dynasty which formed the original unification of the Korean peninsula in the 7th Century AD. The city of around 280,000 residents today is a popular destination for those interested in visiting the many tombs, monuments and temples left over from this era. Gyeongju is reachable by Korail from Busan, Ulsan and Seoul.
The local bus service provided by the City of Gyeongju provides a reasonable service for visiting the sights that are relatively close to the downtown area. Unfortunately, there appears to be very little information about the service provided online. The staff at the information kiosk at Gyeongju Railway Station are able to give information as to routes availabe, and where to board them. Possibly the most useful routes for most visitors will be routes 10 & 11 Express Bus terminal - Bulguksa Temple. Operates a clock-wise (10) and anti-clockwise (11) loop service between Downtown Gyeongju and the famous Temple.
There is currently no Smartcard fare payment system in place, all passengers must deposit ₩ 1500 in the fare box beside the drivers seat on boarding the bus.
