Robert pointed out an interesting video Demo of Avalon 3D, showing how easy it is to do Avalon coolness. Kinda nifty if you're watching what good ol' MS is up to.
Of course, not to let anyone think that I'm selling out, this video decided to lose my currently playing mp3 without giving me any option to to re-start it. Normally not a big deal, but finding where I was in a 3 and a half hour mp3 sucks.
Also, I still disagree that the term "open source marketting" is a) even a real term or b) applicable to the fact that MS has a bunch of people blogging about how cool they are.

On Avalon: Wow, not impressed. 3-D doesn't automatically make a great interface. The only nice thing here is if the APIs for making cool stuff would be basically put in the public domain (liek html) making it easy and free for people to experiment with neat stuff. But that won't happen becuase MS will want to control it tightly.
On "Open Source Marketing": This is an obvious attempt by MS to dilute the idea of "Open Source". Embrace and extend, but this time it is to an IDEA and not code.
