FSM Hatemail

I gotta love the love that people feel for their fellow man, regardles of their race (well, maybe not race) creed (uhm.... ) sexual orientation (maybe not..) or religion. Here's some amusing hatemail that the Flying Spaghetti Monster has recieved.

hey,u know what none cares Wat u think about God's sense of humor,u know what u may not be christian but, there's lot of people out there trying 2 seek God n they don't need any info, about God by u so,i think it will b better if u stop n start acting more like a christian even if u r not .

Have you been touched by his noodly appendage?

Anti-Porn Film from 1965

Nothing says amusing more than a 1965 Anti-Pornography Propaganda film. Some great quotes....

  • No matter who buys this material, 75 to 90% of it ends up in the hands of our children.
  • The so-called "Girly magazines"
  • Obviously calculated to stimulate the reader!
  • ... a vociperous minority in our society....

I could go on....

Linux Kernel Killing off Processes on 2.6.15 AMD64? The last while we've had some random issues here at ufies.org that maybe the inter-tubes can help me with. Around 3am, about the same time the main backup process runs, the kernel on the system here:
Linux master 2.6.15-gentoo-r5 #1 SMP Tue Feb 21 17:49:33 PST 2006 x86_64 Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.40GHz GNU/Linux
decides to randomly kill off some processes (apache, mysql.....). This was an occassional annoyance, but now it's almost a nightly thing and for those of us who receive the alerts (luckily not me :) it's a real pisser. The system has gobs of ram in it and we use pretty much no swap:
master cron.daily # free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 5969 5514 455 0 296 2490
-/+ buffers/cache: 2726 3243
Swap: 1906 0 1905

Out of 6G of ram, 2.7G is used with the rest holding cached data. No swap is used. Fred dug up this post indicating this might be a 2.6.15 bug on AMD64 and I'm wondering if just upgrading to 2.6.16 2.6.17 (which just went stable) would fix it all. Anyone have any similar experience? Can you lend a hand?

Read on for the nitty gritty details of the kernel dump.

Anyone Seen Clerks 2 Yet?

So anyone out there seen Clerks 2 yet? I was just trolling through the Memorable Quotes from Clerks II (2006) on IMDB and laughing my ass off at some of them. Anyone seen this yet? As my buddy Dana says, being a Kevin Smith movie is enough to see it.... unfortunately last weekend was pretty busy, so it'll probably wait until next weekend.

PHP5 Upgrade

So PHP5 is stable and PHP4 is out of portage. Just a note to people with sites hosted off of ufies.org that I'm planning to upgrade to PHP 5.1.4 in the next while (say, by the end of the week). Please make sure your sites work with this version of PHP5 (as I understand it's pretty much compatible). Thanks.

Update Gregg of 21st Century Digital Boy points to the list of php5 incompatibilities. Thanks dude.

XP Monitor Refresh Rate Saving

So this is an issue that I'm asking the web at large to help with. My Windows XPSP2 system refuses to save the refresh rate setting for my CRT monitor. It seems to happen in conjunction with a dual monitor setup. Basically what happens is I reboot, and when the system comes back up the refresh rate is back to 60hz (ie: painful on the eyes). I go into the monitor settings, and it says it's set to 85hz. I set it to 75, hit ok, the refresh changes and it's all ok. I reboot and it's back to the painful refresh rate, go into monitor settings and the settings say 75hz. Change it to 85 and hit ok, and it's back to ok.

Very strange. The setting is saved, but the refresh rate doesn't change. I have the same problem on a relatively new XP install on my work setup where I have an LCD and a CRT (the LCD works fine), and at home where I have two CRTs. At work the monitor is using the PnP drive and at home I have the correct NEC monitor drivers.

Anyone know about this or have any idea how to fix it? I don't reboot that often, so it's not a huge deal, it is however a pain in the butt...
