So I had no clue this existed until I got what I almost deleted as spam this morning. JD and his gang has released ISP Survivor, a game for the iPhone and iPad.
Join Miranda, Pitr, Greg, Mike, Sid and AJ as they trundle around the board collecting their items. Pit yourself against the computer or play with your friends! From 1-6 players you'll have a devil of a time collecting these three measly little items! Watch out for Stef or you'll lose a turn! The ever lovable Dust Puppy will help you go faster and Mr. Cola will give you a boost too! Beat up other players for their booty with the Big Foam ClueBat or the Cheap Plastic LightSaber!
For $1.99 in the app store you really can't lose!
I wish I had noticed earlier, but as Illiad writes, the new Remembrance/Veterans Day arc has started, which means no repeat 'toons for a while, only new (and awesome I'm sure) content. Glad he's back up and at it! :)
Illiad has announced a UF By UFies Contest, where you, yes you could be featured on the Daily static. Hit the link for full details.
According to the latest site news, a UFie has put togheter a $0.99 app to get Userfriendly on your iPhone.
Well, reddit asked the question about about your best April Fools Prank gone wrong and I decided to reminisce the infamous User Friendly april fools day prank from 1999.
Ahh.... memories....
The Daily Static News has a quick update:
Something I have been planning for a long time, and slacking off on as well. So anyway, we have a (mostly) updated Gallery with easy to use indexes. Also being added are various pieces of UFie interest like the long forgotten UFie wars, and IFAD winners. More as updated.
Ryan McBeth sent me this email today:
A couple years ago, Illiad sent me an original User Friendly t-shirt.
I've been away from the comic for a while (crazy at work and working
towards my masters degree), but I heard about Illiad's hiatus and I
wanted to do something for all of the times he made me laugh. So I'm selling my t-shirt on eBay and giving 90% of the proceeds to
the American Cancer Society. Sid would want that, right?
The auction is at
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190362159759#ht_500wt_1182. This is an awesome thing that Ryan is doing, and I hope that the UFies out there will support him and the Cancer society. Just so you know, the shirt being given away is so exclusive, that even I don't have one! :)
Today's UserFriendly Strip harkens back to the days when I had these conversations with SilverStr, Fozbaca, Solas and Engel on the exact same subject. Those tended to go to a bit more of an extreme though, I recall getting to "I flipped the ones and zeros with the magnetic pull of the earth and had to wait a year to flip the next bit" more than once.
As this is a Userfriendly fan site as well as a link-blog, it's good to announced that Illiad is back and the 'toons will be back to brand fresh and new (other than Sundays) right away.
Scott Thompson sent along word that he had created a User Friendly Ornament for your tree. Very cool, thanks Scott!
Just a quick note to say a huge congratulations to Sillz (Sarah) who just delivered her second son!
You know someone is a true geek when they blog that they're in the hospital going into labor :)
Ouch, retroactive and socially irrelevant burn on Illiad in todays's Real Life Comics! JD - you going to let this punk get away with that? :)
(On a side note.... ohhh! First piece of actual "UFie" news in ages!)
-- Obi-Wan predicting what would happen if userfriendly.org ever went down
No folks, I don't know what is going on, but I can't get to our favorite morning web comic destination. Hardware problems? Routers? A new IP that hasn't propagated yet? Who knows, but I know that the good folks are running their asses off right now to get it back up and going. In the meantime, you can get your fix from an archived funny from below from many years ago. Reposted without permission, but I think Illiad would understand.
Update It's up now. The collective geek community heaves a sigh of relief....
Apparently the userfriendly.org DNS servers, as well as those of it's host, parasun, are down down down. No report just yet of why, but Yohimbe has been contacted, and hopefully things will get back to normal soon (assuming anyone else has noticed). Thanks to Boytcho from Bulgaria for contacting me and letting me know it wasn't just the internal work DNS servers that had gone strange.
Update - looks like things are back to normal again. You can come out again.

We as ufies have taken down servers, gotten together, made new friends and even made new loves because of that one little comic. Our Fearless Leader has braved the good, the bad, and the ugly, and has done pretty damn well IMHO.
So JD and AJ, Dustpuppy, Erwin, Miranda, the Chief, Smiling man, and the rest of the gang (both there and not there anymore), a huge congrats on your 5 years of hard work and a very Happy Birthday!
Illiad [thats this guy -- ed ] will be a guest at Penguicon, which is a combination science fiction convention and linux expo in Warren Michigan, May 2-4, 2003.Update: link fixed...The other guests are Terry Pratchett, Eric Raymond, Pete Abrams, and Rob "CmdrTaco" Malda.
The website is here: http://penguicon.sourceforge.net
Just thought I'd mention it. :)
